More shots

This is the location of the final match (set at night). It has exterior lighting (flood lights) so filming at night will be perfect. In these shots there are no characters to be seen, so it looks isolated. However in the finals scene of the film there will be a crowd of supporters watching the match. This will give the scene more tension. Using a shallow depth of field to emphasise the busyness of the surrounding will work well. Also incorporating the use of different cinematography i.e high and low angles and a variation of camera shots.

Locations and atmosphere

These shots are a good representation of how the atmosphere of the film should be. They are really dark and moody and capture a naturalistic element of the location. We want to fit the training scene around the sense of fear and vulnerability. We want the viewer to feel like they are part of the scene; through an emotional and sympathetic connection to the protagonists. A bleak and subdued atmosphere will emphasise the characters feelings of worry and nervousness.

The isolation of the location makes the audience feel vulnerable much like the main characters.

Basic Storyboard

Shot 1: Sets the scene. The protagonists house in the early hours of the morning, the moon is high in the sky and the streets are quiet. Meanwhile the two main character are introduced

Shot 2: The dark hallway of the house is slowly lit up as Georgie leaves the bathroom for the Bedroom. His silhouette floods into the hallway and creates a vast shadow.

Shot 3: Georgie is stood in the door way; he dusts himself off and prepares to enter the bedroom. He looks tired and messy.

Shot 4: Georgie enters the room, to find Reece continuing to play video games. He is urged to join him and walks over to play. The room is sparsely lit (only by the TV) but it is clear by the amount of football and gaming posters that they both have a fascination with the two.

Characters and Costume - Motivations and aspirations

Costumes in the featured short film will be need to be appropriate for each character. The way each character is dressed will determine how the the audience will react and judge them. They could be perceived as tough or weak, lazy or motivated, rich or poor etc. and status, ethnicity, sex and age will also be governing factors. The film involves two young males aged 17 who have a dream to play for a football club, and of course win. Therefore I will need to find appropriate costumes which will fit the characters roles best. for example, the beginning of the film in which they are situated in the bedroom at (3-am), playing computer games and drinking energy drinks; if they were to wear plain t-shirts and scruffy shorts/trousers with white socks - With stains on the t-shirts. This shows their initial laziness and lack of motivation.

as the film progresses the two main characters (Georgie and Reece) go to 'boot camp' or 'training' with a 'famous' ex-footballer Ray Spence. He is a strong, motivated character who is extremely harsh and critical. He will be dressed in full training kit and expect the boys to be dressed appropriately too. This will show his importance and power that he portrays. This is Because he wants them to succeed in becoming class footballers and earn him back his respect in the footballing world, after a mishap that he had when playing professionally.

At the 'boot camp' Georgie and Reece will turn up looking like outcasts and with no knowledge of what Ray has in store for them. This will add to the comedy element of the film. Therefore Georgie and Reece will be dressed in plain t-shirts, jeans and old trainers, with noticeable accessories like sweat bands and head bands. With no common sense in terms of what to wear.

Towards the end of the film the viewer will notice a drastic change in the characters costumes as they will look more motivated and will fit to a more stereotypical sport genre, They wont be the outcasts! and as they gain more knowledge of the game, They will be the best!

This is one of the primary locations we are going to use in the film. Its where the final match will be held and the tense ending of the film will be shot. It is a perfect location in terms of size and availability. With the option of added lighting when it grows dark, filming will be ideal. The final is set at night, the flood lights are lit and there are fans out to watch the game.

Here is an example of the Location at night..

This is also a good example of costume and props.

Short Film Analysis

Analysis:
Goodbye to the Normals is a comedy short involving a young boy (Alfie Field) who wants to leave home and travel to America. Off course his parents have something to say about this and his Father (played by Steve Furst)trys to have a one to one with him. However Magnus has made his mind up.

What makes this short so great is the brilliant cast and script. The use of a strong script with well presented characters really works and gives the film a sit com style light heartedness. The camera work is great too! with each shot comlimenting the sound and mise en scene perfectly. The mix of both 'childish' and 'matur' humour works really well. Great ending.
